No One Likes Pieces Left Behind...

Yep...got this in the mail the other day, at my house, delivered by the mailman into the mailbox. Just a dandy example of wiping-inspired direct marketing.

    Lost and Taken

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, I was out-of-town for a few days.

Lost and Taken is a great resource site for Hi Res, good-quality textures and scans. Most, if not all, are copyright / royalty-free images that are acceptable for personal and commercial use. Check it out.

    Target ClearRx

I was in the process of organizing some old bookmarks, and came across this 2005 Design Observer essay by Michael Beirut. The topic is the Target ClearRx prescription bottle that started as a graduate assignment at the School of Visual Arts.

Although he probably overstates the importance of the bottle redesign, it's still a good piece of writing; and with the inclusion of the comments section, it makes for an interesting read.

What we can learn from Tropicana

I was sent a copy of this article a few weeks ago as a PDF file, but now that Brand Packaging has added it to their site, I thought I would forward it along.

The article focuses on the recent Tropicana rebranding failure by discussing what went wrong, what we can learn from it, and how to potentially avoid a future rebranding backlash.

    Good Type, Bad Type.

I will be teaching an introduction to typography class this semester, and as a reference point for examples and discussion, have created Good Type, Bad Type - where the best and worst of typography, mingle seamlessly. I encourage you to stop by and check it out, and if you would like to join or start a discussion, or have an outstanding example of good / bad typography to share - that's even better.

    Abbey Road Photo Turns 40

This weekend, the iconic album cover photograph for The Beatles Abbey Road turned 40 years old. The late Scottish photographer Iain Macmillan took the image.

BBC News has a nice article about the image, but the link also has some interesting audio clips from John Kosh, the album's creative director, as well as comments from the two album reviewers for Rolling Stone magazine.

    Sagmeister Inc.

Here is a time-lapse video of the project, Obsessions Make My Life Worse and My Life Better, that was created for the Droog Event 2: Urban Play in Amsterdam. The public art installation took eight days, and used 250,000 euro cents consisting of four different tonal shades.

    Cowboys Stadium

On the Dallas Cowboys site, there are some nice photos of the recently completed Cowboys Stadium. The one billion dollar structure is now the largest and most expensive stadium in the NFL.

    Jobless? Sue Your College.

    Repeat after me...

"Colleges are not trades schools, if you want a trade, become a mechanic."
"The United States is in an economic recession"
    "Personal responsibility...accept it."
"There is a 10 percent nationwide unemployment rate"
"Living with your parents and working part-time at SUBWAY is fun."
